Two Cases of the Polycystic Kidney

Abstract
Polycystic kidney is familial, almost always bilateral and often involves liver and pancreas as well. It is the most common form of cystic kidney disease in humans. Adult polycystic kidney disease usually presents in the 4th or 5th decade as an abdominal mass or with signs and symptoms of hematuria, infection, hypertension or renal failure.
Ultrasonography appears to be superior to both excretory urography and isotope scanning in diagnosis of the polycystic disorders. It can give us the information that formerly was only possible with the use of several, often more invasive techniques.
Herein we present two cases of polycystic kidney, in 21 year old man (case I) and 52 year old woman (case II ). Their chief complaints were palpable masses on upper abdomen, and there were familial tendencies of the polycystic kidney. Ultrasonograms on kidneys revealed multiple cystic lesions bilaterally, and livers also showed cystic lesions in both cases. we performed left nephrectomy in Case I because of intermittent intractable pain.
